Do Dorpers have wool?
They have hair(fibre) that looks like wool but this fibre does not have lanolin. Lanolin is what makes sheep meat change from 'lamb' to 'mutton' because the tallow absorbs the flavor from the lanolin.
Will all Dorpers shed?
Yes to some degree. Shedding is dependant upon hormone levels, availabity to rub which helps to remove the outer layers of hair from the undercoat, and general weather conditions. It is considered a breed fault if the thick mat along the main line (ridge of back) sheds completely. This is a form of protection from the elements. In Canada we tend to select for full shedding.
Directions to Wall 2 Wall Sheep Ranch?
From Winnipeg and the perimeter highway, take the #7 north to Teulon then the #17 (turning left) through Inwood... it turns sharply North just as you leave town so if you hit gravel STOP! you have missed the turn in the highway. When you come to a Stop sign you are at Hy #68 and Poplarfield. You want to turn West [left] and come three miles... it will be the first road that goes south and the High Planes Cemetery is on the corner. Go one mile south (left) and then follow the high voltage power lines to the West (right) for 1/2 mile. There will be a long red fence with a white gate.... to open the gate just lift the little chain and walk with the gate. It will swing in or out.... you may leave it open while you are in the yard. Drive up to the house and park by the big tree & little garage at the end of the lane. Welcome. . . . . . . . . . . If you are flying in to Winnipeg Airport, please print a google map showing Winnipeg Airport to Poplarfield as back-up directions.

It seems sheep are discerning eaters?at least when it comes to who serves them. In a 2004 study, researchers at Cambridge University in England gave sheep the choice of two doors to push open to get food. One door depicted a smiling human, the other an angry one. By a vast majority, the sheep chose the door with the smiling face.
